Foton and ZF Partner to Bring Hybrid Drive Systems to China
September 16, 2024 – At the IAA Transportation 2024 event in Hannover, Foton Motor and ZF announced a strategic partnership to introduce advanced hybrid drive systems to the Chinese commercial vehicle market. This collaboration aims to accelerate decarbonization efforts and support the transition to new energy vehicles in China.
Under the agreement, ZF will develop the TraXon 2 Hybrid transmission system for heavy-duty trucks, exclusively produced in China by their joint venture, ZF Foton Automatic Transmission (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd. Production is expected to begin by 2026. This innovative system integrates high-power hybrid modules with traditional drivetrains, offering greater efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and lower emissions. It is suitable for both full hybrid and plug-in hybrid applications.
Foton Chairman Chang Rui emphasized that hybrid systems are a key part of Foton’s green strategy, and this partnership with ZF strengthens their position in the heavy-duty hybrid market. ZF’s Peter Laier highlighted the collaboration’s importance in advancing China’s new energy transformation and global commercial vehicle sustainability.
Both companies are committed to leveraging their strengths to drive the development of eco-friendly solutions, ensuring high-quality, energy-efficient vehicles for customers worldwide.
